Some people age quite gracefully,
Some people lose their hair;
Some can cope with oncoming years,
Others need help getting up from their chair.

While many suffer from arthritis,
Struggling with many a stiffening joint,
Others moan and groan about everything,
They give up, and think, “What’s the point ?”

The teeth are next on the agenda,
As they tend to vacate your head;
Leaving a gummy smile, that splits your face,
And live in a glass beside your bed.

Your face gets wrinkled, with creases,
Around your mouth, and eyes, and nose;
You need support stockings to cover your varicose veins,
And a chiropodist to care for your toes.

You have to wear dark coloured trousers,
To hide the wet patches down your leg;
You no longer give your seat to pregnant women,
They think you need it more, instead.

Your dinner must be mashed to a runny pulp,
For you’ll find it difficult to chew;
So, Bill ,now you’ve reached that Fifty mark,
These will ALL apply to you !!!

The one memory that will always stick out in my mind occurred at your old house when I was about ten years old. You took me and Thomas to go eat lunch by the river but instead me and Tom thought it would be a good idea to climb onto a piece of wood floating down the river and go for a ride. That was when you screamed for us to return: you then called the police out of fright and after they lectured us you were very upset with both of us but looking back on it now it showed how much you love and care for us and we thank you for that.
