Funeral Poems -verse #1 Miss me, but let me go
When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room Why cry for a soul set free
Miss me a little - but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that we once shared Miss me - but let me go
For this is a journey that we must all take And each must go alone It's all a part of the Master's plan A step on the road to home
When you are lonely, and sick of heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds Miss me - but let me go

Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die.

****************************** Funeral poems
Death is nothing at all I have only slipped away into the next room I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other That we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name Speak to me in the easy way which you always used Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes We enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me, Let my name be ever the household word that It always was.
Let it be spoken without effort, Without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant It is the same as it ever was There is absolutely unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am Out of sight? I am but waiting for you For an interval Somewhere very near Just around the corner .
All is well.
Canon Henry Scott Holland (1847-1918)

She is Gone (Read out at the British Queen Mother's Funeral)
You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she's gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Funeral Poems
(Another classic comforter)
A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says She is gone.
Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all. She is just as large now as when I last saw her. Her diminished size and total loss from my sight is in me, not in her.
And just at that moment, when someone at my side says she is gone, there are others who are watching her coming over their horizon and other voices take up a glad shout - There she comes!
That is what dying is. An horizon and just the limit of our sight.
Lift us up O Lord, that we may see further.
Bishop Brent

You never said "I'm leaving" You never said goodbye You were gone before I knew it, And only God knew why
A million times I needed you, A million times I cried If Love alone could have saved you, You never would have died
In Life I loved you dearly In death I love you still In my heart you hold a place, That no one could ever fill
It broke my heart to lose you, But you didn't go alone For part of me went with you, The day God took you home.

THIS IS A PERSONALISED VERSE
This is just a goodbye ditty To a Dad, Grandad, Great Grandad Fred 91 years, very much alive And now, just a few days, dead
But Fred, already you'll know every angel by name You'll have met all your pals from the Leam You'll be Captain...wearing the No 9 shirt In Bob Stokoe's Heavenly Team
You'll know where everyone comes from And you'll be an enterprising old Sod You'll be letting out Holiday Clouds to the angels And selling some cod...to God
I won't go over each point of your life Jim's eulogy...that was the place But I'll say this... You lived your life, full of zest And you lived it ...with Grace
Talking of Grace, it was 63 years Together, and apart, all told If marriage was an Olympic sport You'd have got yourselves a Gold
Let's go back aways...
As the Hun did their best to knack Jarra toon From up in their Zeppelins, they were hoying bombs doon And Fred...you chose that moment to emerge from the womb! 1915...12th of June
All that bombing must have given you your passion And compassion...cos you thought it not reet For you to have shoes when other bairns didn't So you waalked to school...in bare feet
I remember at the home, they took away the lounge You decided to put up a fight You called me in, as your consultant Cos you had some letters to write
You wrote to the landlord, the architect, the Cooncil The Fire Brigade...and John Hall Tony Blair, George Bush and Mother Theresa And Uncle Tom Cobbley an 'all
And you won, you got the lounge back They all conceded, out of fear That's when you said "Tara Well" And you packed up and came back here
I remember your trips to the Market You treated it like a Grand Prix Scudding aboot in yer buggy Stopping by...for a free cup of tea
And you came to the Market every week For my scintilating repartee! I wish! No you were keeping ahead of the competition By checking the price of fresh fish
So, you'll know Fred, they're pulling the Market down After 400 years..what the hell Perhaps you thought 'If the Market's away It's time I pushed off, as well'
You and Grace begatted Ken, Joan and Alan Born, then raised on the Leam And they...and their kids, begatted some more Enough for your own footy team
Here's the team sheet
There's Stephen, Jamie and Gemima Mathew, Katie, Suzanne Karen, Daniel and David Mitchell, Kate and Joanne
And to adapt the very moving "Miss me.." poem
Fred, we're not gathered together in a gloom filled room There's no heads bowed low for you We're having a 'do' in the Springwell Club Cos we know you'd want us to
You've taken the journey we all must take We take comfort and we know You're in a place, you can share with Grace
We miss you... but we're letting you go
You've been a life-long supporter, Fred Of the lads in red and white So it's fitting that your ashes should rest 'Neath the pitch of the Stadium of Light
Where you'll, literally, be supporting your team Whether they're losing or winning The ref's now blown the full time whistle Rest in Peace, Fred Dinning

She was so very, very special And was so from the start You held her in your arms But mainly in your heart
And like a single drop of rain That on still waters fall, Her life did ripples make And touched the lives of all.
She's gone to play with angels In heaven up above So keep your special memories And treasure. them with love
Although your darling daughter Was with you just a while She'll live on in your heart With a sweet remembered smile
**********************************
The sky is filled with Angels With puffy lacy wings The remnants of God's beauty With treasures they now bring
Each one of them a Guardian That travels in the sky To watch throughout eternity Their parents from on high
Smiles that come from Angels They fall like crystal rain Eases earthly burdens Lifting all life's pain
Halos so astounding That glitter gold each day Following their loved ones In such a perfect way
Wings in gentle breezes That fall from up above Kissing every parent With everlasting love
Angels soar through heaven With everlasting light Looking down from heaven Saying their "goodnights"
Kissing all who loved them So gently on the face This life's tender mercy Each parent can embrace
Wings and shiny halos Travel from on high Surrounding all their loved ones They never say good-bye.

Funeral poems
The world may never notice If a Snowdrop doesn't bloom, Or even pause to wonder If the petals fall too soon.
But every life that ever forms, Or ever comes to be, Touches the world in some small way For all eternity.
The little one we longed for Was swiftly here and gone. But the love that was then planted Is a light that still shines on.
And though our arms are empty, Our hearts know what to do. Every beating of our hearts Says that we love you.
******************************
Time has taken me from you, Although not very far. I'll be watching through the sunshine And through the brightest star.
I'll be watching all of you, From the heavens up above. So take good care of each other And carry all my love.
If you're ever wondering If I'm there, here's where you can start. Take a look inside yourself Deep within your heart.
I'll always be your baby, Your child (grandchild), your best friend. So anytime you need me, Close your eyes I'm back again.

funeral poems
In a baby castle, just beyond your eye, Your baby plays with angel toys that money cannot buy. Who are you to wish him back into this world of strife, No, play on your baby, he'll have eternal life. At night when all is silent and sleep forsakes your eyes, You'll hear his tiny footsteps come running to your side His little hands caress you so tenderly and sweet, You'll breathe a prayer and close your eyes and embrace him in your sleep. Now you have a treasure that you rate above all others You have known true glory, You are still his mother.

A song oft sung at an Irish Wake
Look at the coffin, with golden handles Isn't it grand, boys, to be bloody well dead?
Let's not have a sniffle, let's have a bloody good cry And always remember: The longer you live The sooner you'll bloody-well die!
Look at the flowers, all bloody withered Isn't it grand, boys, to be bloody-well dead?
Let's not have a sniffle, let's have a bloody-good cry And always remember: The longer you live The sooner you'll bloody-well die!
Look at the mourners, bloody-great hypocrites Isn't it grand, boys, to be bloody-well dead?
Let's not have a sniffle, let's have a bloody-good cry And always remember: The longer you live The sooner you'll bloody-well die!
Look at the preacher, bloody sanctimoniousIsn't it grand, boys, to be bloody-well dead?
Let's not have a sniffle, let's have a bloody-good cry And always remember: The longer you live The sooner you'll bloody-well die!
Look at the widow, bloody-great female Isn't it grand, boys, to be bloody-well dead?
Let's not have a sniffle, let's have a bloody-good cry And always remember: The longer you live The sooner you'll bloody-well die!
And always remember: The longer you live... The sooner you'll bloody-well die!

Pet Loss Poems, Verses
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Tribute To A Best Friend
Sunlight streams through window paneunto a spot on the floor....then I remember,it's where you used to lie,but now you are no more. Our feet walk down a hall of carpet, and muted echoes sound....then I remember,It's where your paws would joyously abound.A voice is heard along the road, and up beyond the hill, then I remember it can't be yours....your golden voice is still. But I'll take that vacant spot of floorand empty muted halland lay them with the absent voiceand unused dish along the wall.I'll wrap these treasured memorialsin a blanket of my loveand keep them for my best frienduntil we meet above.

DOG NEEDING TO BE PUT TO SLEEP
If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this -- the last battle -- can't be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close -- we two -- these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Funeral Poems
When God had made the earth and skythe flowers and the trees,He then made all the animals the fish, the birds and bees.
And when at last He'd finishednot one was quite the same.He said, "I'll walk this world of mine and give each one a name."
And so He traveled far and wide and everywhere He went,a little creature followed Himuntil it's strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earthand in the sky and sea,the little creature said, "Dear Lord, there's not one left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him,"I've left you to the end.I've turned my own name back to frontand called you dog, My friend."

I lost a treasured friend today,The little dog who used to layHer gentle head upon my kneeAnd share her silent thoughts with me.
She'll come no longer to my call,Retrieve no more her favorite ball.A voice far greater than my ownHas called her to His golden throne.
And though my eyes are filled with tears,I thank Him for the happy yearsHe let her spend down here with me,And for her love and loyalty.

After Glow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free I’m following the path God has laid you see. I took His hand when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee God wanted me now; He set me free.
This is a nice shortened version

We’ve shared our lives these many years. You’ve held my hand; you’ve held my heart. So many blessings, so few tears Yet for a moment, we must part. The memories you’ve given me Are times I’ve shared with my best friend I’ll hold them, Love. Right here they’ll beUntil we share our lives again.

A beautiful comforting poem, when the deceased had been suffering an illness
God looked around his garden And He found an empty place. And then He looked down upon the earth,And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you,And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain,He knew that you would neverGet well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough, And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids,And whispered"Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you. But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you,The day God called you home.

Funeral Poems
When I am gone, release me -let me go I have so many things to see and do.- You must not tie yourself to me with tears Be happy that we had so many years I gave you love, you can only guess how much you gave me in happiness I thank you for the love each have shownBut now it is time I travelled alone So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust - It is only for a while that we must partSo bless those memories within your heart.- I will not be far away, for life goes on. So if you need me, call and I will come. -Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near - And if you listen with your heart, you will hear -All of my love around you, soft and clear.-Then when you must come this way alone,I will greet you with a smile and "welcome home"

Death leaves a heartache No one can heal; Love leaves a memory No one can steal
Irish Tombstone
******************
We've known lots of pleasure, At times endured pain, We've lived in the sunshine And walked in the rain.
But now we're seperated And for a time apart, But I am not alone- You're forever in my heart.
Death always seems so sudden, And it is always sure, But what is oft' forgotten- It is not without a cure.
There may be times you miss me, I sort of hope you do, But smile when you think of me, For I'll be waiting for you.
Now there's many things for you to do, And lots of ways to grow, So get busy, be happy, and live your life,
Miss me, but let me go.

Don’t tell me that you understand. Don’t tell me that you know. Don’t tell me that I will survive, How I will surely grow.
Don’t come at me with answers That can only come from me. Don’t tell me how my grief will pass, That I will soon be free.
Accept me in my ups and downs. I need someone to share. Just hold my hand and let me cry And say, “My friend, I care"

Weep Not For Me
Weep not for me though I am gone Into the gentle night Grieve if you will, but not for long Upon my souls sweet flight.
There is no need for tears. I am at peace, my soul is at rest There is no pain, I suffer not, For with your love I was so blessed.
I am in a place of comfort The fear now is gone. Put those things out of your thoughts, In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath Remember not the strife Please do not dwell upon my death But celebrate my life

Funeral Blues-
Made popular by the movie, “Four Weddings and a Funeral”
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, Silence the pianos and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead. Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves, Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week and my Sunday rest, My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now; put out every one, Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun, Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods; For nothing now can ever come to any good.
W.H. Auden

Funeral Poems
I'm Still Here
Friend, please don't mourn for me I'm still here, though you don't see. I'm right by your side each night and day And within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near. I'm everything you feel, see or hear. My spirit is free, but I'll never depart As long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight- I'm the brightest star on a summer night. I'll never be beyond your reach- I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colourful leaves when Autumn's around And the pure white snow that blankets the ground. I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond, The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring, The first warm raindrop that April will bring. I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine, And you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you, You can talk to me through the Lord above you. I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees, And you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep. I'm the smile you see on a baby's face. Just look for me, friend, I'm every place!
