Wedding Poems Asking for Money As Gift

How to request money as a wedding gift is one of the most challenging etiquette issues H2Bs and W2Bs face as they plan their weddings.

It's not that long ago when even gift lists were considered bad form but common sense has prevailed and couples no longer need to endure duplicate toasters, multiple kettles etc and ornaments destined for the first available car boot sale.

Because of the trend to live together before marriage (and therefore the couple already have an established home), it is now appropriate to ask for money rather than gifts.

Most wedding guests readily appreciate that, for modern newlyweds, monetary gifts are far more useful to them than a traditional wedding gift.

It is advisable to decide in advance what your cash wedding gifts are going to be spent on. Guests will appreciate, and are more likely to feel more comfortable, giving cash if they know how their cash gift will be spent. For example money towards big ticket items for the home or honeymoon. If for the honeymoon, registering with a travel shop is a good option.

Jack & Jill have registered with XYZ travel. If you would like to help make their honeymoon dreams come true you can contribute via....etc (add details here)

We have been living together for some (12) years now and have everything a home could need, however, if you feel you would like to purchase something we would greatly appreciate XYZ travel vouchers!!

Wishing Well or Money Tree

More wedding poems asking for money as gift, specifically using a Wedding Wishing Well or a Money Tree at your wedding reception?

These are becoming increasingly popular as they provide, what some think is, a more tasteful way for guests to hand over gifts of cash to you.

The concept is that you get the information out by word of mouth to wedding guests that you are going to have a wishing well or money tree at your wedding reception.

Or if you prefer, you could do it by a wedding poem asking for money as gift

We lived together before this wedding
So we have a home, full of toasters and bedding
So what to get for the bride & groom
Whose house is set up in every room?
To save you looking, shopping and buying,
Here's an idea you might like trying!
We need (new flooring) and (a new table) too,
But registering for huge items ain't the thing to do
So please put some money into a card,
Now make a wish.... see, that wasn't hard!
Now we've saved you all the fuss,
We hope you'll come and celebrate with us!
A (wishing well) (money tree) will be at the reception hall
To deposit your wishes... Thanks and love to all.

**********************************

The wishing well is then placed at your reception venue and guests can slip in their monetary gifts and/or wedding cards.

You could decorate the wishing well with your wedding colors so that it blends in with the style of your wedding reception venue.

Have a look on the internet as there are lots of different types available ranging from cardboard to proper wooden wells.

You could place a sign near the wishing well with some wording explaining what it is for or (even better I think) a poem such as:

Because at first we lived in sin
We've got the sheets and a rubbish bin
A gift from you, would be swell
But we'd prefer a donation to our Wishing Well

More than just kisses so far we've shared,
Our home has been made with Love and Care,
Most things we need we've already got,
And in our home we can't fit a lot!

A wishing well we thought would be great,
(But only if you wish to participate),
A gift of money is placed in the well,
Then make a wish .... but shhh don't tell!

Once we've replaced the old with the new,
We can look back and say it was thanks to you!
And in return for your kindness, we're sure
That one day soon you will get what you wished for.

******************************

This wishing well before you here
Has a purpose that's pretty clear.
Please drop some (green) (dough) (ackers) (spondooly) into the slot,
Please don't skimp...make it a lot!(LOL)
We would think it pretty nifty
If it was at least a fifty.
After all it cost us lots of money
To plan this day and our moon of honey!

Thank you,

Including the Request for Money in the Invitation

More wedding poems asking for money as gift

Some say word of mouth through the bridal party and family is the best way to get the message across

However, it is our view that wedding poems asking for money as gift, in the invitations, are appropriate

*****************************

If you were thinking of giving a gift,
To help us on our way.
A gift of cash towards our house,
Would really make our day.
However, if you prefer to purchase a gift,
Feel free to surprise us in your own way."

**************************

Please find within this poem
Information just for you,
With some rules and regulations
That we both insist you do.

Save the date of (Saturday 17th June)
Is the first thing to say
To share the love and happiness
On our wedding day.

The second one is vital
If you're to be our guest,
To eat, drink and be merry
Or do your very best.

The third one is an order
So don't bring two left feet,
As when the evening comes around
You MUST dance to the beat.

The fourth rule can be broken
We really do not mind,
But if you choose to follow it
Thank you for being kind.

We've been together for a few years
And have a lovely home,
There are not too many items now
We don't already own.

So if your thoughts were on a gift
Your presence will suffice,
But if you really feel the need
Then travel vouchers would be nice.

The choice is really up to you
And we would like to say
We hope you come, enjoy yourselves
And have a lovely day.

We are looking to use XYZ as our travel agents.

XYZ vouchers can be purchased from any of their main street stores with many of the branches stocking the vouchers where others will need to order them in advance.

***************************

"We already have a lovely fully furnished home but would like to buy 'big' things like new carpets, wooden flooring for downstairs, and a new dining room table.
So... we would welcome a monetary contribution to put towards the things we need to make our house our nice and cosy, married home."

****************************

Love the joy of choosing gifts? And wrapping the chosen captive? If thoughts elude in this regard... money is attractive!

*****************************

You're invited to our wedding
When we both say "I do"
And, as you know, we've been "I doing"
(For at least a year or two) or (For quite some time, that's true)

Therefore there's no wedding list
The household things we need are few
So if you're thinking of a wedding gift
Money's the practical thing to do

Suggest the couple then hand write
Cheques must be accompanied by a bankers card
or
Used fivers under the park bench
or
By the wheelbarrow load, please

*******************************

This invites you to witness
(Name and Name) say ''I Do''
If you wish to give something
Here's a clue for you

Be it kettle or toaster,
They do have the lot
So rather than give them
Something they've got...

Larger items are needed
And on these they must spend
So cash is appreciated,
Hope this doesn't offend

****************************

We'd love you to come to our wedding
We look forward to seeing you there.
But please could you do us a favour?
And show us you really do care.

We have all the toasters we need
And kettles are easy to find
Bed linen we have in abundance
And clocks that we don't have to wind

The glasses we have are quite lovely
And the cutlery still has it's shine
The ornaments all have their places
And the furniture all looks just fine.

The white ware is even still gleaming
The microwave cooks up a treat
The washer is still quite effective
And the iron still keeps our clothes neat.

So if you'd like to give us a present
Save a trip to the stores or the net
It's the money we'd rather be getting
And its easier to wrap it, we bet.

So please come help join us together
Help celebrate our special day
But please don't come loaded with boxes
They would only get in our way!

***************************

Unsure in our minds, of what we may need,
Not wanting to offend, or show any greed,
We have the essentials to be living in sin,
A kettle, a toaster, and even a bin.
So , vouchers are requested, in order to proceed,
With the purchases that we, will eventually need.

********************************

The date has been set and we'd love you to come,
To our wedding in (place name), a long way for some,
All you must do, is decide what to wear,
Then polish your jewellery and comb up your hair.

Don't worry about gifts, don't buy us a yacht,
The things that we need, we've already got.
Our home is quite compact, we may have to move
Then our storage and space will surely improve.

Don't go out shopping or get yourself stressed,
Don't alter your plans for a pre wedding rest.
If you want to be generous, despite what we've said,
Then save all the hassle and do this instead.....

Don't know how to word this but will give it our best shot..
Contributions are most welcome, we'll go somewhere hot!
A honeymoon would be marvellous, to start off our life,
In our long winding journey, as new husband and wife!

Thank you
